The ratio of the outer and inner perimeters of a circular path is 23 : 22. If the path is 5 metres wide, find the diameter of the inner circle.

Solution:

Let inner and outer radius be r and (r + 5) m respectively;
Then,

{2π(r+5)}/{2πr}

{23}/{22}

⇒ 22r + 110 = 23r
∴ r = 110 m
Since, diameter of the inner circle = 2r = 2 × 110 = 220 m
