Samir took 15 seconds to cross a rectangular field diagonally walking at the rate of 52 m/min. and Saurabh took the same to cross the same field along its sides walking at the rate of 68 m/min. What is the area of the field?

Validate

Solution:

Here, diagonal =

√{x^2+y^2}

52 × {15}/{60}

= 13 m
∴

x^2+y^2

169 m^2

and also, x + y = 68 ×

{15}/{60}

= 17 m
Hence, area = xy =

{(x+y)^2-(x^2+y^2)}/2

{(17)^2-169/2

{289-169}/2

= 60

m^2
