A rectangular sheet of paper is 8 cm × 6 cm. If a greatest possible circle is cut out from it, the area of the remaining paper will be :

(48 – 9π) sq. cm.
(48 – 5π) sq. cm.
(24 – 9π) sq. cm.
(48 – 11π) sq. cm.

Validate

Solution:

Area of the rectangular paper = 8 × 6 = 48 sq. cm.
Since Diameter of the greatest possible circle will be 6 cm.
∴ Radius of the circle (R) = 6/2 = 3 cm
Now, Area of the circle =

πR^2

= π × 3 × 3 = 9π sq. cm
∴ Area of the remaining paper = (48 – 9π) sq. cm.
