Solution:

Here, area of the rectangle = x × y = xy
Again, area of the new retangle =

x/y × 3y

{3xy}/2

Change in area =

3/2 xy - xy

1/2 xy

Hence, required percentage =

1/2 {xy}/{xy} × 100

= 50 %
