Solution:

a^4 - 9a^2 + 2a + 8=(a^2-1)(a^2-2a-8)

So, the other quadratic equation is

a^2 - 2a - 8= 0

a^2 - 4a + 2a - 8 = 0

a(a - 4) + 2(a - 4) = 0
