A rectangular carpet has an area of 120 sq metres and a perimeter of 46 metres. The length of its diagonal (in metres) is:

Solution:

(d) Let 1 and b be the length and breadth of rectangle
Ib= 120 ....(1)
2(/ + b) = 46 / + b = 23
Squaring both side

l^2 + b^2 + 2/b=529

l^2 + b^2 = 529-2 × 120 = 289

Length of diagonal

= √{l^2+b^2}=√289 m=17
