A tank is connected with an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe. An inlet pipe can fill the cistern in 7 hours and the outlet pipe can empty it in 14 hours. There is also a leakage at the bottom of the tank. It all three are opened together, it takes 14 more minutes to fill the tank by an inlet pipe. Then find the time taken by the leakage alone to empty the full tank.

Solution:

Let the leakage can empty the full tank in x minutes.
Time taken by all the three to fill the tank = 7 + 14 = 28 minutes
Then

1/7 - 1/{14} - 1/x

1/7 - 1/{14}-1/{28}

1/x

{4-2-1}/{28}

1/{28}

So, time taken by the leakage alone to empty the full tank = 28 minutes.
