Mean,

and

\;{1+2+6+x+y}/{5}\;=5

x+y\;=16

So, mean deviation

=\;{|1-5|+|2-5|+|6-5|+|x-5|+|y-5|}/{5}

Now we consider,

\;\text " Mean deviation "\;\;=\;{4+3+1+(x+y-10)}/{5}

\;=\;{8+16-10}/{5}=\;{14}/{5}=2.8 .
