Two pipes A and B can fill the cistern in 37.5 minutes and 45 minutes respectively. Both pipes are opened. The cistern will be filled in just half an hour, if the B is turned off after:

5 minutes
9 minutes
10 minutes

Solution:

Part of tank filled by A in 1 min

=1/37.5

Part of tank filled by B in 1 min

=1/45

Let B be turned off after x
According to the question

30/37.5+x/45=1

x/45=1/5

x=9

after 9 min B is turned off
