The number of common terms in the two sequence 17, 21, 25, ..... 817 and 16, 21, 26, ... 851 is;

Solution:

Number of terms in
1st series

817=17+(m-1)4

⇒

m=201

2nd series,

851=16+(n-1)5

⇒n=168

Now,

17+(m-1)4=16+(n-1)5

⇒4m+2=5n

For,

m=2,n=2

m=7,n=6

m=12,n=10

m=17,n=14

It also form a series.
∴ Number of common terms,

197=2+(P-1)5

⇒P=40
