to reach as wind was in the same direction. If there is no wind, how much time does he take to travel from home to church?

Solution:

Let the speed of person and that of wind be

and v km \/ h respectively.
Then,

{d}/{u-v}=4

and

{d}/{u+v}=3

⇒ 4(u-v) =3(u+v)

⇒u =7 v

⇒ {d}/{u+\;{u}/{7}} =3

⇒ {d}/{( {8 u} /7)}=3

⇒ {d}/{u}=\;{24}/{7}

Hence, required time

=\;{24}/{7} h=3
