$\therefore \mathit{x}$ can complete the job in 24 days
$\because \mathit{y}$ does $\frac{3}{4}$ of the job in 12 days
$\therefore \mathit{y}$ can complete the job in $12\times \frac{4}{3}$ days $=16$ days
Thus, time taken by $\mathit{x}$ and $\mathit{y}$ together to complete the job
$=\frac{24\times 16}{24+16}=\frac{24\times 16}{40}=9\frac{3}{5}$ days
