If twice the age of daughter is added to three times the age of mother, the sum is 120 and if twice the mother’s age is added to three times the daughter’s age, then the sum is 90. The age of mother is

Solution:

Let, mother’s age is x years and daughter’s age is y years.

2y+3x=120

....(i)
and

2x+3y=90

...(ii)
From (i) and (ii),

5x=360–180

x=180/5=36

years
∴ Mother’s age = 36 years.
