How many kgs of pure salt must be added to 30 kg of 2% solution of salt and water to increase it to a 10% solution?

Solution:

Initial pure salt content = 2% of 30 kg

=2/100×30=3/5kg

Let y kg of pure salt be added to the solution to make it 10% pure salt.
Total pure salt content

=(3/5+y)kg

Total amount of solution

=(30+y)kg

{3/5+y}/{30+y}=10/100

⇒{3+5y}/{5(30+y)}=1/10

⇒{3+5y}/{30+y}=1/2

⇒6+10y=30+y

⇒9y=24

⇒y=24/9=8/3
