A car travelling at x k m/hr covers a distance of y km in 45 minutes. After increasing speed by 25%, it covers a distance of (y + 6) km in 40 minutes, what is the value of y ?

45/60 x = y

(40/60)1.25x = y+6

⇒

50/60x = y + 6

....(ii)
Dividing (ii) by (i) we get

50 /45={y+6 }/y

50y = 45y + 270

5y = 270

y = 54
