(a) Let the present ages of Ashu’s mother and that of Ashu be x and y, respectively.
Then, (x-5) = 3(y -5) or x - 5 = 3y -15
or x — 3y = —10 ...(i)
and (x + 5) = 2 (y + 5)
And x + 5 = 2y + 10 or x-2y = 5 ...(ii)
From (i) and (ii), we have x = 35 and y =15
