Transgenic plants are resistant to diseases, pests, pesticides etc, can tolerate adverse environmental condition, can produce pharmaceutically important compounds like antibodies, vaccines, etc. Golden rice, developed at Swiss Federal Institute of technology is a transgenic plant, rich in vitamin A ( β carotene) may help in solving the problem of night blindness in developing countries.
