Solution:

Let the age of younger man be

x

years and the age of elder man be

(x+8)

yr.
According to the question,

\;\;{x+8-16}/{x-16} \;\; =\;{3}/{2}

⇒\;\;{x-8}/{x-16} \;\; =\;{3}/{2}

⇒\;3 x-48 \;\; =2 x-16 ⇒ x=32

∴ Age of elder man

=32+8=40 {yr}
