A man’s present age is 8 times more than his son. After 10 years, he will be thrice the age of his son. How old is son at present?

Solution:

Let the present age of son = x years
Then, man’s present age = 8x years
After 10 years,

8x + 10 = 3(x + 10)

5x = 30 – 10

5x = 20

x = 4

∴ Son’s present age is 4 years.
