Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 24 minutes and 32 minutes respectively. If both the pipes are opened simultaneously, after how much time pipe B should be closed so that the tank is full in 18 minutes?

Validate

Solution:

In 18 minutes the part filled by pipe A

=18×1/24=3/4

The remaining part

=1-3/4=1/4

Time taken by pipe B to fill the remaining part

={1/4}/{1/32}=1/4×32/1=8

minutes
Hence, after 8 minutes pipe B should be closed.
