In a mixture of 35 litres, the ratio of milk and water is 4 : 1. Now, 7 litres of water is added to the mixture. Find the ratio of milk and water in the new mixture.

Solution:

In the mixture, milk =

{35×4}/{5}

= 28 litres
water =

{25×1}/5

= 7 litres
when 7 litre water added in the mixture
resulting ratio milk : water
= 28 : (7 + 7) ⇒ 28 : 14
= 2 : 1.
