Two numbers are such that the ratio between them is 3 : 5, but if each is increased by 10, the ratio between them becomes 5 : 7. The numbers are

Solution:

Let the two numbers are x and y.
Then, from question,
x : y = 3k : 5k
again
(3k + 10) : (5k + 10) = 5 : 7
or,

{3k+10}/{5k+10}

5/7

7(3k + 10) = 5(5k + 10)
21k + 70 = 25k + 50
4k = 20
k = 5
Hence, two numbers are 15 and 25.
