Solution:

Let the first number = x
and second number = y
According to the question,
70% of x =

4/5

of y
or

{70}/{100}

× x =

4/5

× y or

{7x}/{10}

{4y}/{5}

or 35x = 40y
or 7x = 8y ...(i)
Again, x – y = 100
or x = 100 + y ...(ii)
Putting the value of equation (ii) in equation (i), we get
7x = 8y
7 (100 + y) = 8y
700 + 7y = 8y
700 = y
∴ x = 100 + y
= 100 + 700 = 800
