∴ Average of 7 numbers = 24
∴ Total of 7 numbers = 24 × 7 = 168
Also average of 9 numbers = 25
∴ Total of 9 numbers = 225
Let us suppose the two remaining numbers are x and 2x, so
225 = 168 + x + 2x
⇒168 + 3x = 225
⇒ 3x = 57
∴ x = 19
Thus, the smaller number, x = 19.
