Let the number of inlet pipes be

x

∴

Number of outlet pipes

=6-x

According to the question,

\;{x}/{9}-\;{(6-x)}/{6}=\;{1}/{9}

⇒ \;{2 x-3 × 6+3 x}/{18} =\;{1}/{9}

⇒ 5 x-18 =2

∴ x =4

Hence, the numberof inlet pipes is 4 .
