The following pie-chart shows the percentage number of candidates passed in XYZ, examination from States A, B, C, D, E and F of a country in 2005. The bar-graph shows the percentage of fresh candidates who passed their graduation in 2005.

Solution:

(a) Let the total number of students appeared in exams for state D be x.
25% of x = 160
x =

{160×100}/25

= 640
So, total 640 candidates passed from D. If total number of candidates from all states be y.
Then, 10% of y =640

{10×\y}/100

= 640
⇒ y = 6400
So, total 6400 students appeared.
Now, number of students passed from state E
= 25 % of 6400
=

{25×6400}/100

= 1600
∴ Total required number of non-fresher candidates passed from state E
=

({85×1600}/100)

= 1408
