Two men undertake to do a piece of work for ₹ 600. One alone could do it in 6 days and the other in 8 days. With the assistance of a boy, they finished it in 3 days. Boy’s share should be

Solution:

(1 ) Let the boy can do the work in x days.
Then,

1/6+1/8+1/x=1/3

⇒

1/x=1/3-1/6-1/8

⇒

1/x=1/24

⇒ x = 24
∴ Boy can do the work in 24 days.
Now, ratio of their share
=

1/6:1/8:1/24

= 4 : 3 : 1
Hence, boy’s share =

1/8

x 600 = ₹ 75
