A ten-rupee coin is placed on a plain paper. How many coins of the same size can be placed around it so that each one touches the central and adjacent coins?

Solution:

(d) Let the radius of each coin be 'R\ Consider, three coins A, B and C, the lines joining their centres, i.e. AC, AB and BC are equal in length.

∴AC = AB = BC = 2R
∴ ABC is an equilateral triangle and ∠CAB=60°
Now, Complete angle A = 360°
∴ Number of coins around coin A =

360°/60°

=6°
