Diagonal of square $=\mathit{a}\sqrt{2}$ ; where a = sides of square
Calculation:
Let the sides of the square be 'a' unit
⇒ Area of square with side 'a' unit $={\mathit{a}}^2$
⇒ Area of square with side $\prime \mathit{a}\sqrt{2}\prime$ unit = $2{\mathit{a}}^2$
∴ Required ratio of area $={\mathit{a}}^2/2{\mathit{a}}^2=1/2$
