Let the place be ‘x’ km away
Upstream speed = speed of boat – speed of current
⇒ upstream speed = 6 - 2 = 4 kmph
Downstream speed = speed of boat + speed of current
⇒ downstream speed = 6 + 2 = 8 kmph
Total time = time in upstream travel + time in downstream travel
But , time = distance/speed
$\Rightarrow 1.5=\frac{\mathit{x}}{4}+\frac{\mathit{x}}{8}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{3\mathit{x}}{8}=1.5$
∴ x = 1.5 × 8/3 = 4 km
Thus the place is at a distance of 4 km
