Data regarding total student strength (Boys and girls) of schools — A, B and C in different years (2010 and 2015)

Out of the total number of boys in schools A, B and C together in the year 2010, only 80% passed the annual exam. Out of the total number of boys in schools A, B and C together in the year 2015, only 75% passed the annual exam. What is the difference between the number of boys who passed from all the schools together in 2010 and that who passed in the year 2015 ?

Solution:

(2) Total students in school A in 2010

= {200× 100} /25 = 800

Boys ⇒ 800 - 200 = 600
In school B
Boys = 60%
Girls = 40%
∵

40% ≡ 220

∴

60% ≡ 220/ 40 × 60

= 300 = Number of boys
Number of boys in school C

= 400 /20 × 80 = 1600

Total number of boys

= 600 + 330 + 1600 = 2530

Successfulboys =

{2530 ×80} /100

= 2024

Number of boys in 2015
School A ⇒

480 /30 × 70 = 1120

School B ⇒

660 /55 × 45 = 540

School C ⇒

300/ 25 × 75 = 900

Total number of boys

= 1120 + 540 + 900 = 2560

Successful boys

= 2560× 75/100

= 1920
Required difference

= 2024- 1920 = 104
