A jar contains x litres of mixture of liquids- A and B, in the respective ratio of 2 : 3. Six litres each of the liquids- A and B, was added to the mixture in the jar, as a result of which the quantity of liquid A was 18 litre less than that of liquid B.
What is the value of x ?

Solution:

(3) Case I,
Liquid

A = 2y

litres
Liquid

B = 3y

litres
Case II,

3y + 6 - 2y - 6 = 18

⇒

y = 18

∴

x = 5y = 5 × 18

= 90 litres
