Antibiotic resistance gene present in the vector is mainly used for the selection of transformed bacterial cell. This transformed bacterial cell contain a recombinant vector (vector ligated with gene of interest) with antibiotic resistance gene (tet gene) so that it can resist from the antibiotic (tetracycline) containing media. The non- transformed cell failed to survive in the antibiotic containing media during the selection process.
