In the case of sickle cell anaemia, the substitution of valine(CTC) for glutamic acid (CAC) at the sixth position in the βchain allows a new bond to form, which changes the conformation of the haemoglobin and leads to aggregation of haemoglobin molecules. This is an example of silent point mutation.
