Inbreeding refers to the mating between the closely related individuals for 4–6 generations within the same breed. It is used to develop pure lines as it increases homozygosity. The harmful recessive genes that are uncovered as a result of this, can be weeded out from the population. Once the harmful genes are eliminated, the population consists of superior desirable genes. This increases the productivity of the population.
