KCET 2017 Chemistry Solved Paper

This reaction is used to prepare primary amines. In this reaction, phthalimide is converted it to potassium salt by heating with alcoholic KOH. The salt is then treated with alkyl halide to give N-alkyl phthalimide, which on alkaline hydrolysis with aqueous NaOH gives a primary amine as the product.
