RNA interference (RNAi) is a process in which a specific mRNA is degraded due to the presence of a double-stranded small interference RNA whose sequence is contained within the mRNA sequence. The RNAi occurs at the post-transcriptional level and is triggered by short double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). It plays an important role in all eukaryotes defending cells against parasitic nucleotide sequences.
