In competitive interactions, members of the species strive to obtain the same limited resources, that is, compete for resources. In this interaction both the interacting organisms need not to live close together. But, for rest of the interactions, predation, parasitism and mutualism, one organism depends on its survival on the other, thus they have to live close to each other.
