Glycogen is called animal starch because its structure is similar to amylopectin. The main difference between glycogen and amylopectin is that amylopectin chain consists of about 20−25 glucose unit, but glycogen chains are much shorter and consist of about 10−14 glucose units and glycogen is highly branched.
