A scrubber can remove gases like sulphur dioxide. In a scrubber, the exhaust is passed through a spray of water or lime water. Water dissolves gases. The particles also become heavy and fall down. Lime reacts with sulphur dioxide to produce a precipitate of calcium sulphate or sulphite, used to remove soluble gases and particles.
