(3) Mahatma Gandhi’s approach towards the Adivasis,as he called the indigenous people, was in favour of their Hinduization on a reformed level. He motivated many reform movements such as the Safahor (clean men) among the Santhals and the Tana Bhagat cults among the Oraons.
Earlier, the Bhagirath Movement led to Safahor movement among the Santhals in 1874. Dubia Gosain led the Safahor or Kherwars of Hazaribagh against the census authorities and the administration in 1880.
