(1) The Deccan Plateau is a triangular landmass lying to the south of the Narmada. The Satpura Range f lanks i ts broad base in the north, while the Mahadev hills, the Kaimur hills and the Maikal range form its eastern extension.Its north-east extension is locally known as the Meghalaya and Karbi-Anglong plateau. It is separated from the Chhotanagpur plateau by a fault.
Three prominent hill ranges from the west to east are the Garo, Khasi and Jaintia hills.
