The Rangarajan Committee was appointed in 1993 by the government to study the disinvestment in the market. According to the recommendations of the committee, the share of investment can be capped at any level except nuclear energy and defence. The committee capped the investment level to 74% for other industries and 49% in defence and nuclear energy. The committee recommended four types of disinvestments – Trade Sale, Strategic Sale, Offer of Shareand Closure or sale of assets.
