Wolff-Kishner reagent It utilises hydrazine (NH2−NH2) as the reducing agent in the presence of strong base KOH or C2H5ONa+in a high boiling protic solvent.
The driving force for the reaction is the conversion of hydrazine to nitrogen gas.
