Length of train = (y + 30) meters
Speed of man = 4 m/s
Formula used:
Time = distance/speed
Calculation:
Let the speed of train be s m/s
⇒

(y+30)

(s+4)

= 10
⇒ y + 30 = 10s + 40 ….(1)

(y+30)

(s–4)

= 26 ….(2) (If train and man moved in same direction.)
⇒ y + 30 = 26s – 104
From (1) and (2)
⇒ 10s + 40 = 26s – 104
⇒ - 16s = -104 – 40
⇒ 16s = 144
⇒ s = 9 m/s
∴ Speed of train is 9 km/h
