(1) In order for a computer to play sound, it must be equipped with a sound card and either speakers or earphones. Most of the music collection is probably in digital format, either on CDs or as files on a computer. In order to be able to listen to music, a sound card converts digital data to analog sound waves that one can hear. The output signal is then connected to a headphone or set of speakers.
