(3) Bachendri Pal, an Indian mountaineer, became the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest on 23 May 1984. Bachendri Pal continued to be active after ascending the highest peak in the world. She successfully led several mountain expeditions since then. She is from Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
