(2) P.V. Sindhu, in May 2013, won her maiden Grand Prix Gold title beating Singaporean fifth seed Juan Gu in the women’s singles final of the $120,000 Malaysia Open badminton in Kuala Lumpur. On 10 August 2013, Sindhu became the first ever Indian woman to win a medal in singles at the World Championships (India’s first singles medal since Prakash Padukone won bronze in 1983).
