Let the present ages of Ashu’s mother and that of Ashu be x and y, respectively.
Then, (x–5) = 3(y –5) or x – 5 = 3y – 15
or x – 3y = – 10 ...(i)
and (x + 5) = 2 (y + 5)
And x + 5 = 2y + 10 or x – 2y = 5 ...(ii)
From (i) and (ii), we have x = 35 and y = 15
Hence, the present age of Ashu = 15 years
