One-third of Shrihari’s marks in Math equal half of his English marks. Shrihari noticed that in these two subjects his marks totaled 150. What did Shrihari score in English?

(a) Let Maths and English marks are denoted by M and E.
According to the given condition.,

\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; { M } /{ 3 } = \ { E }/ { 2 }

⇒

\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; \M = { 3 \E } /{ 2 }

and

{ 3 \E } /{ 2 } + E = 150

⇒ \;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; \;\;{ 5 \E }/ { 2 } = 150

\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; \;\;\;\;\;\;\; \E = 60
